Yoga means to unite or to join it also means to addition. Adding a spiritual aspect to yoga practice. Which is not referring to religion in any way or form.
In the west it’s seen very much as the more flexible you are, the better you are at yoga. It’s seen as competitive, almost a gymnastic stile.
I as a yoga teacher, have seen very flexible people that haven’t the first clue about yoga. Their minds are not focused on be present, but elsewhere, what’s for tea, what car shall I buy next and so on. Yoga should be treated as an exciting journey. For example the journey in the intense forward bend, (Uttanasana) from not being able to touch your toes, to touching your toes. The journey may only be 30cm, but arriving at your destination can be life changing.
Life changing? Yes life changing. It brings peace and clarity to the mind. It pull the body into the shape it’s always meant to be. Bringing strength to the mind body and soul, uniting the mental, physical and emotional. The benefits of regular practice can help many health issues.
