What is Karuna Reiki?

‘Compassionate Action’

Karuna is a form of reiki originated and taught by reiki master William Lee Rand. It encompasses “guided meditation” and “healing shadow self-meditation”. The Sanskrit Word “karuna” is translatable as “compassionate action”. It conduces to work closely with all “enlightened beings” including those present in spirit.

Karuna reiki is a form of spiritual healing derived from the reiki practice developed by the Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui in the 1920s. Karuna reiki is considered to be a Western form of the reiki spiritual practice. The practice was developed by William Rand, founder of the the International Center for Reiki Training in Michigan.

The Sanskrit word “karuna” reflects any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others, according to the International Center for Reiki Training. Karuna is used in Hindi and most directly translates into English as “compassionate action.” Karuna deals with the enlightenment of individuals and recognising the existence of all beings. This recognition aims to lead those who practice karuna reiki to extend compassion to others. Karuna proposes that all beings are connected as one. When applying karuna logic to this, compassion becomes a natural reaction.

Karuna reiki works off the belief that every human has the ability to transmit and receive healing energy from other humans. According to the International Center for Reiki Training, not everyone can receive or provide healing energy without developing karuna within oneself first. Instruction on developing karuna and how to use it to affect your emotional and spiritual levels are designed to help you become receptive to the healing powers of karuna, as well as learning how to project karuna onto others.

Karuna reiki is developed under the guidance of achieving various symbols. Instructional courses graduate participants by presenting them with two attunements, master symbols and eight treatment symbols. Each symbol level prepares the student to use karuna reiki in some form, from healing and releasing karma, to dealing with past life issues and breaking up negative life patterns. EnergeticArts.com claims that many who practice karuna reiki begin to have contact with guides, angles and spiritual beings, once a sense of karuna has been developed within.
